The Safe Way To Get Into Shape Before Summer

By Todd Philson

With bathing suit season not very far away, people are starting to put away their holiday eating habits and resolving to get into shape before they won't have the ability to hide their bodies under large layers of clothing. So many individuals throw themselves straight into training constantly because they are desperate to lose weight and get into shape before anybody gets to see their body. Sadly, working to get in shape too fast could actually damage your health. Doctors all over the place believe that it doesn't do you any good to just jump into a regular exercise routine. So what are you supposed to do in order to get in shape before bathing suit season shows up?

It is important that you see your doctor before you do anything. Ask for a comprehensive bodily check up. This can help you see precisely what your starting place is before you start working out and trying to get in shape. Your doctor will help you determine how much you should weigh and what your body mass index should be as well as letting you know if you have any particular health conditions that you need to remember when you start working to get in shape. Your doctor will allow you to construct some dietary guidelines so that you can also work to get your diet under control.

Start out gradual. Don't try to run five miles instantly. A very good plan for working your way directly into shape is Couch to 5K. This is a program that increases the distance and time spent running until you're ready to take on a 5K run. Of course, to get in form you need to do more than just run. You should also start doing some weight training and cardiovascular workouts as well. If you don't have time for all of this, look for a swimming variation of Couch to 5K-this way you'll work your whole body and build all of your systems safely and over time.

Find a support group. Sure putting on weight can be embarrassing, but you stand an improved chance of losing weight and getting into shape if you find a few people to work with. You can come together to get healthy and eat healthfully; after all, your support group will be the individuals who go to weight loss group meetings with you, take exercise and work out classes with you, etc. If you do not want to do this with people in your normal life, you can typically find this kind of emotional support on the internet. You can enroll in one of any number of online support groups made to help with weight loss.

The real truth is that it will take time to lose weight and get your body into decent shape. The earlier you start to change things for the better, the better off you are going to be. The sooner you begin your efforts, the easier it's going to be to work on building your body gradually and over time. Try to bear in mind this is a situation when slow and steady really does win the race: your health and body will thank you for your efforts in bathing suit season.
