Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet Plan?

By Vanessa Summer

We all recognize that the top foods to consume when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These are the foods that give people protein and energy. They help our bodies remain balanced without infusing a bunch of calories that we have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a few of the foods you've been thinking are good for your diet plan could actually be making you retain weight? They could even be making you gain additional pounds! Here are a number of the foods that may be undermining your diet attempts.

Sports Drinks may not be aiding you whatsoever. You have possibly been told that your sports drink is the proper way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Many health professionals agree, however, that if your workout is less than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are full of calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural and also healthy diet. Instead, try sipping some chocolate milk. The sugar in chocolate will help your muscles start to repair themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

Skip your protein shakes. Lots of individuals believe that drinking a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. The truth is that when you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake really does is overburden your system with protein. Converse to common belief, protein isn't stored as muscle tissue fiber, it's stored as fat. This means that if you have already consumed too much protein that day, your body will merely store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not as healthy for you as you may think. You likely are convinced a sandwich that is made from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has much too many preservatives and sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This could be specifically tricky if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, pick home grilled chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Sure these options are more costly but they are much healthier for you in the long run.

There are a lot of things that we imagine will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor which food items are right for you and then consume those. If you are mindful about precisely what you eat and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
